The 2026 PGA Atlantic Championships, presented by Golf Trends, made their debut at Eagles Glenn Golf Course in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, where competitors in the Seniors', Women's, Assistants', and Playing Ability Test (PAT) divisions enjoyed two exciting days of competition.

The championship saw increased participation across all three competitive divisions, highlighting the continued growth and strength of PGA of Canada Atlantic events.

PGA Atlantic would like to extend its sincere thanks to Eagles Glenn Golf Course for their hospitality throughout the week, as well as Golf Trends, Levelwear, and Green Diamond Equipment for making this event such a success.

ROUND 1

Round one began with a 12:00 p.m. shotgun start under ideal conditions, setting the stage for an exciting opening day.

New for 2026, the Senior Championships adopted a Stableford scoring format, aligning with the format used at the PGA of Canada Senior Championship and creating an exciting new dynamic for competitors.

The defending Senior Champion wasted no time making his intentions clear. Gordie Smith (Ashburn Golf Club) opened the event with 35 Stableford points to take the early lead in the Senior division. Chris Bunting (Gage Golf Club) followed closely behind with 32 points, while Kevin Dugas (The Links at Montague) and Roger Keating (The Links at Brunello) were tied for third after round one with 30 points apiece.

Following a similar trend in the Women's Division, defending champion Morgan Matchett (Miramichi Golf & Country Club) came out strong in the opening round, carding a 74 to claim the round-one lead. Anne Chouinard (The Links at Crowbush Cove) sat just one stoke back after posting a 75, while Kristi Roach (Hampton Golf Club) rounded out the top three with an opening-round of 76.

The Assistants' Championship leaderboard remained tightly contested, led by Justin Caron (Better Golf Atlantic), who fired an impressive four-under-par 68 to take the overnight lead. Connor Shea (Belvedere Golf Club) carded 70 to sit in second place, while Thomas Keddy (Stonehurst Golf Center) and Tyler Hashmi (Top Notch Golf) remained within striking distance after posting a 71.

ROUND 2

Round two teed off bright and early with split-tee starts from holes No. 1 and No. 10 beginning at 7:00 a.m. With rain forecasted for the early afternoon, players faced a race against both the weather and the leaderboard as they looked to secure championship titles.

In the Senior Division, Gordie Smith once again demonstrated why he is one of the division's top competitors, finishing with a total of 71 Stableford points to successfully defend his title for another year. Todd Bishop (Dormie Workshop) made a significant move up the leaderboard with a strong second round, climbing from a tie for sixth into second place with 63 points. Kevin Dugas remained consistent throughout both rounds, rounding out the podium with 59 points.

The Women's Championship came down to the wire, with Anne Chouinard overtaking the lead to capture the title with a 36-hole total of 152. Defending champion Morgan Matchett finished just one stroke behind at 153, while Anne Balser (Oakfield Golf & CC) secured third place with a total score of 157.

The Assistants' Championship featured plenty of movement atop the leaderboard as players traded positions throughout the final round. Despite rain arriving during the latter stages of play, Justin Caron held strong on the back 9, posting a gross total score of 140 to claim the championship title. Tyler Hashmi and Connor Shea finished tied for second place closely behind at 142.

While the PGA of Canada Assistants' Championship has already taken place earlier this spring, competitors were also vying for a top-four finish to secure financial support for the 2027 national championship. Thomas Keddy and Isaac MacNaughton (Fox Harb'r Resort) finished tied for fourth place, setting the stage for a sudden-death playoff to determine the final qualifying position. In the end, MacNaughton emerged victorious, securing his place among the top-four finishers.

In addition to the Championship event, a strong field of 13 golfers took on the Playing Ability Test (PAT), each looking to meet the required score of 82 or better to earn their Professional staus. Nine players successfully achieved the target score over the two days, led by a stand-out performance from Orion Comeau (Hole9Golf), who carded an impressive four-under-par 68.

The successful candidates included Orion Comeau (Hole9Golf), Ryan Langlois (Grandview Golf Club), James MacLean (Hole9Golf), Jeremy Berrigan (Cabot Cape Breton), Misak Manoukian (Cabot Cape Breton), Austin Sanchez (Royal Oaks Estates & Golf Club), and Ty Beed (Antigonish Golf & Country Club), Tyler Collette (Fox Meadow Golf Club) & Hunter Martell (Cabot Cape Breton).

Congratulations to all champions, PAT graduates, and participants on a fantastic two days of competition. The PGA of Canada Atlantic looks forward to building on this year's momentum at the 2027 PGA Atlantic Championships back in Eagles Glenn.
