This year’s PGA Atlantic Championships have officially come to a close, and what a hot one it was! Over two exciting days, our Seniors, Women’s, Assistants, and PAT players battled high temperatures and fierce competition, delivering exciting performances from start to finish.

Round 1

Round 1 teed off at 12:00 PM on Monday, June 23, starting with the Seniors Division. Defending champion Gordon Smith (Ashburn Golf Club) wasted no time taking the lead, shooting an even par (72). Close behind was Jim Ogilvie (Brightwood Golf & Country Club) with a 75, and Michael Feyko (Soldier On Canada) kept himself in the running with a solid 77. It was a promising start to what would become a tight competition.

In the Women’s Division, the leaderboard was even tighter. Kristi Roach (Hampton Golf Club) claimed a narrow lead with a score of 75. Just one stroke back, Morgan Matchett (Miramichi Golf & Country Club) and Anne Balser (Oakfield Golf & Country Club) finished the day tied at 76, setting the stage for an exciting second round.

Our host, Andre Savoie (Mountain Woods GC) set the tone in the Assistants Division with an impressive 3-under (69). Right behind him, Connor Shea (Belvedere Golf Club), Justin Caron (The Links at Brunello), and Thomas Keddy (Miramichi Golf CC) all finished Round 1 at 70, locking them in a three-way tie for second. With scores this close, the pressure was on for day two.

The first day wrapped up with six determined golfers attempting the Playing Ability Test (PAT), aiming to shoot 79 or better. Three succeeded:

  • Tristan Sanchez (Royal Oaks Estates & GC) – 73

  • William Simonds (Riverside Country Club) – 77

  • Steven Brooks (Country Meadows) – 78

Congratulations to all three on a job well done!

Round 2

Tuesday morning was a scorcher, even with a 7:30 am tee off. But that didn't stop the players from putting on impressive performances!

In addition to competing for the trophy, players were also battling for a top-four finish to qualify for the Atlantic Zone team at this year’s PGA of Canada Assistants’ Championship. Josh Landine (Ashburn Golf Club) and Justin Caron (The Links at Brunello) finished the tournament tied for fourth, leading to an exciting sudden-death playoff for the final team spot. In the end, Landine came out on top and will join Andre Savoie, Connor Shea, and Thomas Keddy in representing the Atlantic Zone at Oakfield Golf Club this September. Congratulations Golfers!

Events like this wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our community. A big thank you to our gracious hosts at Mountain Woods Golf Club for the warm hospitality, and to our generous sponsors, Golf Trends and Levelwear, for helping make it all happen. We can’t wait to see everyone back next year at Eagles Glenn!
