Margeson goes back-to-back Srixon / Cleveland PGA Atlantic Zone Championship Presented by Nike Golf

Written By: Samantha Stein, Communications, Marketing, and Event Management Coordinator, PGA of Canada Atlantic

PGA Atlantic professionals teed it up this week at Oakfield Golf & Country Club, competing for the largest purse of the season, an impressive $24,000, thanks to the generous support of Srixon / Cleveland Golf and Nike Golf. PGA Atlantic extends its sincere appreciation to these valued partners, whose continued support makes premier events like this possible.

Despite the unpredictable Nova Scotia weather, scorching heat on Day 1 and steady rain on Day 2, our professionals delivered thrilling performances from start to finish. All eyes were on defending champion Shaun Margeson, who had the added advantage of competing on his home course at Oakfield. But the leaderboard proved tight and competitive right from the opening round.

The final leaderboard can be found here!

Round 1 Recap

Round 1 got underway at 12:00 PM, and both the temperatures and competition were heating up. Jordan Ells (TrackMan Canada) led the charge with a stellar round of 67, finishing five under par. Close behind, five players were locked in a tie at 68: Andre Savoie (Mountain Woods Golf Club), Brett Wilson (West Hills), Josh Landine (Ashburn Golf Club), Shaun Margeson (Oakfield Golf & CC), and Bradford Curren (Glen Arbour).

A special highlight came from Josh Landine, who eagled the final hole to join the crowded tie for second place, cementing an exciting start to the championship. With scores packed so tightly at the top, round 2 promised plenty of excitement and left the championship wide open.

PAT Success

Alongside the Zone Championship, seven determined golfers took on the Playing Ability Test (PAT), with three successfully earning their status:

  • Alex MacDonald – Hole9Golf (77)

  • Joseph Kendziora – Ashburn Golf Club (80)

  • Evan Whyte – Antigonish Golf & Country Club (81)

Congratulations to these players on this important career milestone!

Beyond the Scorecard

To finish off the day, Oakfield Golf & Country Club delivered an exceptional experience for players and guests, hosting a memorable beachside celebration following Round 1. Attendees enjoyed live music from Jon Cyr, delicious surf and turf, and a chance to cool off lakeside, creating a perfect evening to unwind after a competitive day on the course.

Round 2 teed off bright and early at 7:00 AM, and players were met with steady rain and wet conditions throughout the day. The leaderboard battle quickly became a showdown between Shaun Margeson and Jordan Ells both starting off strong on the front 9.

However, it was Margeson who found another gear on the back 9. Using his home course knowledge to his advantage, he pulled ahead with a phenomenal finish, carding a remarkable 64, just one shot shy of his personal course best. This brought his two-round total to 132, finishing at an impressive 12-under-par to successfully defend his Zone Championship title. Ells remained in pursuit, finishing second with a total score of 136. Meanwhile, Adam Chamberlain (Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club) and Josh Landine rounded out the top of the leaderboard, tying for third at 137.

Along with the battle for the Zone Championship, Head Professionals were also competing for a chance to represent the Atlantic Zone at the PGA Head Professional Championship of Canada, presented by Callaway Golf, set for December 6-11 in Cancun, Mexico. Alex Egan (Chester Golf Club) and Derek MacKinnon (KenWo Golf Club) finished the tournament tied, forcing an exciting sudden-death playoff for the final team spot. Egan clinched the win and will join Adam Chamberlain, Brett Wilson, and Alex Jewers (BetterGolf Plus) at this year’s national championship!

Events like this wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our community. A heartfelt thank you to Eric Tobin, Blehr MacKinley, and the entire team at Oakfield Golf & Country Club for being such fantastic hosts. We also extend our thanks to Jarret Connick, Sales Representative for Cleveland/Srixon and Nike Golf, for his continuous support of this event.

We can’t wait to see you all again next year!
