Each year, something special happens at the PGA Scramble National Final presented by BMW.
Sure, each of the 21 teams that experience the event at Cabot Cape Breton presented by BMW are winners.
They’ve formed a team of four amateurs with varying handicaps, followed a few specific rules, performed at their qualifying sites and earned a spot in what, for many, is the biggest sporting event of their lives.
At the National Final, these teams, to start, play the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked courses in the SCOREGolf rankings.
Amateurs – who have jobs outside of golf, some far removed from playing golf for a living – experience a professional golf experience thanks to the world-class PGA of Canada championship organization.
BMW throws a Night Golf Experience like you wouldn’t believe, everyone is decked out in gear thanks to adidas, and PGA partners like RBC, Michelob Ultra, Vigor Eyewear, Smucker’s Uncrustables and TEED UP make sure everyone is taken care of.
But, at the end of the day, everyone shows up to win a National Championship.
Each team of four amateurs was joined at their Regional Qualifying site by a PGA of Canada Professional, who then joins them at Cabot Cape Breton to add a bit of firepower.
Together, they attempt to achieve the unthinkable – have their names etched on a National Championship trophy.
Crazy moments happen each year:
2017
“I’m no professional golfer, but standing over that putt I definitely felt like one,” said Rodney Webber, a member of the first team to ever win the PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final at Cabot Cape Breton.
Standing over a four-footer, Rodney drilled it to win it for his team.
2018
The closest margin you can imagine. Just 0.1 strokes separated first from second, with the squad from Fox Meadow Golf Course picking up the win.
2019
The team from Carman Golf & Curling Club, which finished dead last in its local qualifier just one year prior, qualified for the National Final – and won the whole
thing.
2020
Was 2020.
2021
“Hooper is so clutch it’s disgusting,” said Joshua Hooper’s teammate in 2021 after ‘Hooper’ himself knocked in a 40-footer on 17 and hit a 7-iron to two feet on 18 to win the Championship by one stroke.
2022
The team’s PGA of Canada Professional came up clutch. Jamie Moran hit it to two feet on 17 to help give the club from Belvedere Golf Club the win, after teammate Colin Armstrong rolled in a 50-footer on 15.
2023
PGA of Canada Professional Justin Carron hit a shot from 250 yards out on the eighth that his teammate said was “the shot (he’ll) never forget.” Carron’s teammate, Jordan Bastarache, made a deep birdie putt on 16 during the final round to all but seal the win for his team.
2024
Larters at St. Andrews had the most dominant performance in event history, shooting gross scores of 58-55-56 to win by four strokes.
2025
Ashleigh Shadagopal and Christina Mah made history as the first female national champions in the 10-year history of the program.
So, the only question to ask is: who’s next?
