(Enfield, NS) – Tuesday marked the opening round of the 2025 PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf, where five players: Jordan Ells, Josh Landine, Mitchell Fox, Khan Lee and Dillon Batsel shot 68 to sit in a five-way tie for the lead at 4-under par.

Five other players: Shaun Margeson, Thomas Keddy, Yohann Benson, Maxwell Cohen, and Ryan Curren, shot 69 to sit one-stroke back.

Last year, Fox finished as the runner up at both the Assistants’ Championship and PGA Championship of Canada – he also finished as the runner up and 3rd place finisher in each event in 2023 – he is hoping that this is the year he breaks through for his first national title.

“As long as I keep putting myself into a position to win heading into the final round, eventually I think I will pull one off,” said Fox. “Hopefully I can hang around (the lead) and see what happens.”

Fox is a part of the PGA of Alberta InterZone team which has claimed three of the past four team events, which concludes following the second round. Currently, Alberta, holds a three-shot lead over Atlantic Canada.

“We have a really good team,” said Fox. “Usually in Alberta we have a solid four guys, but this year especially we have four guys who can play really well.”

“The course is great. This is my first time being here, I wasn’t sure what to expect but the layout is awesome, the greens are perfect. They are tough and the downhill putts are tricky, but the course is awesome,” continued Fox.

The 12th hole was selected as the E-Z-GO ‘It’s Good to Go’ hole of the week. All players who make eagle this week will be put into a draw for a $250 cash prize. Thomas Keddy, Alex McDonald and Paul Bonenfant eagled the hole on Tuesday.

Second round tee times begin at 7:30 AM on Wednesday.
